Whenever I get my hands on a new project, the first thing I do is start an extensive exploration of the concept or idea. I try to exhaust all sources of information so that I can be fully informed on the subject or concept. In other words I conduct a small research on the subject which involves multiple sources of information, which help inspire me. The most accessible source of information for me is the internet where one can find unlimited resources whether that be text, visuals or images. Aside the internet, I also extensively read related books in order to have the background and knowledge it takes to begin my work. Depending on the subject, magazines are also very helpful for me as one can always refer to them to keep up with news and alternative lifestyles which can be an excellent source of inspiration. Last but certainly not least, I use aspects of everyday life in order to absorb the elements I need to process my work. Life is said to be the main source of inspiration and I totally agree with this, as it everyday emotions, relationships, news and demands that help conceptualize art.
Once I have gathered enough information about the project at hand, I start brainstorming and then move on to imprint or plot my ideas on a sketchbook. When end up with some final ideas, I move on to making drafts using colours as well. If the project demands the use of other materials I try out different ones in order to find the most appropriate depending on the subject. Having experimented with drafts, colours and materials, I can then decide what my final design or illustration will be.
For each project, I try to make use of different materials and colours. For instance, if I need to create a black and white design or sketch, I will rather use a felt-tip pen in order to be precise and detailed. When it comes to creating a bigger painting, I rather make use of paint or chalk depending on whether the painting will be on canvas or paper. Besides these materials, there are projects were I need to extensively use Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop, especially when it comes to certain designs like stationary, logos or posters. Another thing I enjoy working with is photographs. Using photography, one can come up with beautiful results, given that with photographs you have the means to work and alter them until you can come up with the desired end result.
Another important factor affecting the way I work is the positioning of different elements on a project I am working on. Using the appropriate positioning as well as the right colours, I can create the depth and the perspective I desire.
For every final project, I always try to do the best I can. This is done by exhausting all scopes and aspects, until I am finally satisfied by the end result. I uphold to all the requirements asked from me for every project, and try to always give more than what is asked from me in order to make each project unique and mine, something that expresses me.
Continuing on these lines of work and learning more and more each day, I believe that I can accomplish a lot in my field which is graphic design. I believe that the way each individual works plays an important role in their efficiency.
